hoice of Materials and Colors. Kitchen islands made of wood with marble tops are commonly found in Western houses. While these are very successful to make a rustic-looking kitchen, they are not the only choices for modern homes. For a modern look, be brave and creative by mixing various materials and colors. Some materials that will bring a modern aura to your cooking space, among others are metal, glass and granite. Colors are also an essential thing that significantly affects the look and feel of a space. Solemn, earthy colors such as woody, sandy or other gradations of brown give a classic look, while vibrant colors such as deep blue or metallic colors such as silver can create a more modern appearance.
Determine what you’re going to use the island for. When choosing an island design for your kitchen, one of the most effective steps is to determine the function of the island. Will you use it strictly as a place to eat and chat? Will you use it for a microwave, refrigerator, or sink? There‘s no "right" or "wrong" function of your kitchen island. Instead, it’s important to determine how it can enhance your time in the kitchen.
An island top that is on casters may be appealing to a homeowner who doesn‘t want to commit to the exact positioning of the island. The countertop can be moved to the end of the kitchen if extra seating is needed or to the middle of the kitchen if extra workspace is needed. A homeowner may also find that he or she can wheel the island into a completely different room if it is needed as extra counter space for craft work or computer equipment.
